Demon’s Souls, Demon’s Souls Remake Game Database

Imagine if its three eyes were massive, lovingly rendered orbs of mottled glass. Imagine if its teeth were so long as to be absurd, but rendered with precise detail down to the marrow. Imagine if, when Bluepoint took out a strange detail, they replaced it with an equally imaginative one. As a substitute for something authentically weird, Bluepoint has created something authentically normal that adheres to the slightly cartoony version of “realism” that video games so often employ. Everything’s a little uglier, a little grimier, a little less visually striking. The Flamelurker, an imposing golem of fire, looks like a Diablo monster.

Demon’s Souls Remake

This guide shows all of the Ring Locations in the Demon’s Souls PS5 Remake / Remaster. Of course, it’s hard to say when we might learn more about a Demon’s Souls remake PC release date without an official announcement or teaser from its publisher. That, however, is far more likely to happen now than it was a couple of years ago.

This was a game in desperate need of a remake, but Bluepoint Games and Japan Studio have gone above and beyond in remaking it. Each archstone leads to a lengthy area with three main locations to explore. They’re huge — most of the game involves navigating these four archstones, making careful progress until you can overcome the boss blocking the checkpoint.

Moore also confirmed that the game’s memorable Old Monk fight, in which a player is summoned to fight as the boss in another player’s game, will be as players remember it in the remake too. Finally, for any Demon’s Souls player who remembers the laborious grind of tracking down that elusive Pure Bladestone to secure the game’s platinum trophy, Moore says players of the remake won’t suffer as much. As some fans discovered via a recent leak, Demon’s Souls musical score is also getting an overhaul. Moore described the process of taking the game’s music “to the next level,” akin to the remake’s graphics upgrade. Polygon recently spoke with the game’s creative director, Gavin Moore, who is overseeing the project at Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. Moore said that the PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls will retain what players love about the PS3 version, while improving aspects of the original — and making a few small, but surprising changes along the way.

Multiplayer Upgrades

In the process, it also manages to get everyone excited about the potential of next-gen console gaming. It’s the best next-gen launch game and a damn good entry into the Soulslike genre. The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls is, in the ways that matter most, the best version of the game, but that still leaves us with the question of why you should care about Demon’s Souls in the first place. You don’t walk away from a game like Demon’s Souls without a few good stories to share. When I think back on my time with the PS5 remake, two moments that occurred fairly early on in the game spring to mind. The Demon’s Souls remake might be the only true next-gen experience on PS5.

The Current Alignment Of Your Character

One way that Demon’s Souls may actually be easier than Dark Souls is with its healing system. Instead of using a rechargeable flask, Demon’s Souls has players carrying around plants that they can use to restore some health. Dark Souls limits the number of times players can use their flask before they need to rest at a bonfire, but Demon’s Souls players can lug around a significant amount of healing grass with them at all times. The game is still incredibly challenging, but it does alleviate the pressure a little bit. Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake released alongside the PlayStation 5, where it was hailed as one of the handful of truly “next-gen” releases available that fall.

There are four different areas you need to clear to progress deeper into the Boletarian Palace — and it isn’t always clear what the best path to the end is. If you’re a new player without much experience in Demon’s Souls, you might want to follow our optimal path, as decided by veteran Demon’s Souls players. In Demon’s Souls, players will venture into the fog-ridden kingdom of Boletaria. Gavin Moore from Blupoint Games has shared information about the support for hint system in Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 5. The devs have prepared over 180 videos that will gradually guide lost players towards the solution to their problem. A series of action RPGs, enjoying a cult status among many players.

This is extremely useful and can either mitigate health drain as a result of debuffs or help conserve the use of healing items in between combat encounters. Encountered in a ruin roughly halfway through 4-1, the Adjudicator Shield, while not a weapon in a traditional sense, is an excellent complementary piece for builds that aren’t excessively reliant on parrying or dexterity. Classified as a large shield, it’s not practical in all situations, and it doesn’t even negate one hundred percent of incoming damage. Demon’s Souls’ World Tendency and Character Tendency systems are opaque and fascinating. They’ll affect certain things in the game, like whether you have access to particular areas or whether a specific non-player character will appear. Fortunately, there’s a pretty clear indicator that shows when you’ve gone above 50% of your equip weight, which is where those chunky, sluggish rolls start.

Players can fight massive dragons and other colossal threats standing in their way. Co-op is another returning feature from the original, which can alloow players to fight demons together or each other by invading their worlds with the Black Eye Stone. In a game full of ruthless and evil demons, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to band together to improve each other’s chances of winning. Sony’s success with its first-party PC ports has been mixed lately. Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut proved successful, but Returnal, LEGO Horizon Adventures, and Concord were disappointing.

Demon’s Souls players create a character and are immediately thrust into an unforgiving, bleak world where everything is out to kill them and death has severe, lasting consequences. All of this is taken to new heights of immersion through the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback adaptive triggers pair with the 3D audio in superb fashion. It’s one thing to watch as your character strikes down the undead and impales a skeleton, it’s another to completely hear and feel the difference.

On that note, a flash back to Demon’s Souls’ frame-rate on PS3 is a great reminder that there is a lot of room for improvement. From the very first areas in Boletaria, you could count on a drop to 12 frames per second every time a dragon wreaks havoc on those initial bridges. The combination of multiple enemies, broad draw distance, and lots of full-res alpha for fire, really hammered Sony’s machine. And while there’s really no confirmation on the remake’s frame-rate targets, the 30fps trailer encode at least shows no drops. We’ve waited a long time for this – a whole console generation in fact – but a revamped rendition of Demon’s Souls is finally coming, spearheading the line-up for Sony’s next generational leap in gaming.

An obsessive of all things cutting edge in graphics technology, Tom’s been writing reviews for Digital Foundry and Eurogamer since 2011. His all time favourite games include Gitaroo Man, Hades and Street Fighter 6. The crow is found on the tree just before the fog leading to the Adjudicator’s Room.

That said, with every extra hour I spend in Boletaria, my fondness for the game grows. Yes, the later installments of souls made better bosses, added convenience mechanics, and did away with obscure threads that players may be frustrated by. There are but tr88 of the weapons and armor, yet I feel I have more to find, more to upgrade, more to try – whereas in Dark Souls 3 I had stopped caring about 50 weapons in.
